Tree and Plant ID: Primitve Technology Survivalist Program

Tree and Plant ID: Primitve Technology Survivalist Program

Jun. 24, 9:00AM – 4:00PM

The ability to positively identify trees and plants for edible, medicinal, and utility purposes is critical in primitive technology and survival strategies. Understanding different habitat requirements of wildlife will help you know which species to be on the lookout for in different areas. This is a walking class through the diverse woodlands at Chehaw where we will identify various plants and how to use them. Utilitarian uses may include making weapons, basketry, cordage, fire-making, shelters, etc. Food discussion will be for both people as well as animals and will also cover the seasons that these are available. Medicinal use will be lightly covered. There will be walking in the woods so everyone should come dressed in long pants and boots. Insect repellant is recommended. Bring a camera or cell phone to take pictures, notebook and pencil for notes, and maybe a cloth bag for samples. Go >

Georgia Wake Series Stop 3: Wakefest Albany

Georgia Wake Series Stop 3: Wakefest Albany

Jul. 1, 8:00AM – 5:00PM

Wakefest in Albany continues it's run as one of the longest running events in grassroots wakeboarding. For years, the boys down south have been hosting an annual tournament benefiting a local family in need. From its first years of 20 riders and $1500.00 in donations to expanding that by a factor of nearly ten and adding "Wakefest After Dark" - a post event concert with big-name artists, Wakefest has come a long way from its humble beginnings. Long known as home to some of Georgia's best conditions, Wakefest is the soul of the grassroots scene. "We're thrilled to continue our relationship with Georgia Wake Series for 2017," said Wakefest director, Adam Gilbert. "This year we are returning to Chehaw Park for the wakeboard tournament. We are working on something special in addition to the wakeboard tournament but details on that are going to have to wait!" Go >
